Mailbox Types
Telecommunications offers two types of student mailboxes, a "single"
mailbox designed for single resident apartments, and a "tree" mailbox
designed for residence halls and multi-resident apartments.
-
Single Mailboxes: A four-digit mailbox associated with your
telephone line allows direct access to message retrieval and notification.
Residence hall and multi-resident apartments may share a personal mailbox
to collect messages, much like the use of an answering machine.
-
Tree Mailboxes: Tree mailboxes allow occupants to receive messages
for each individual in the room/apartment. Tree mailboxes are comprised of
two types of mailboxes, the introductory mailbox and individual
mailboxes.
The Introductory mailbox directs the caller to choose from individual
mailboxes in the tree. For example, a typical mailbox greeting might say
"You have reached Troutman 109. Press 1 to leave a message for Time, press
2 for Bob, press 3 for Paul."
Introductory mailboxes are four-digit numbers and are associated with the
room's telephone number.
Individual mailboxes are six-digit numbers that allow for roommates
to receive separate and personal messages.

Each mailbox is assigned a temporary passcode.
New users must use a tutorial when a new mailbox is created
in order to (1) change the initial passcode, (2) record a greeting, and (3)
record your voice for the system. You must complete the tutorial before any
changes take effect. If you hang up during the tutorial, you must dial back into
the system with your temporary passcode and go through the tutorial again.
Passcodes are confidential to the user. if you forget your passcode, contact
Telecommunications at 774-7779. If you suspect your passcode is being used by
