Authenticating through the Exchange service
Please Note: These directions should only be used when configuring an on-campus machine with Outlook for the Exchange Server.

  1. On the desktop, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on the Mail control panel. (If you do not see a Mail control panel, click on Switch to Classic View.)
  3. Click on Email Accounts....
  4. Under Email, select Add a new email account, and click Next.
  5. Select Microsoft Exchange Server, and click Next.
  6. Set the Microsoft Exchange Server to CMAIL1, and set the User Name to your Global ID  (example: smith1j).
  7. Uncheck the Use Cached Exchange Mode option.
  8. Click Check Name.
  9. You may then be asked to input your User Name, Password, and Domain. The User Name is your Global ID. The Password is your NT Password. Set the Domain to CENTRAL. Click OK.
  10. Your full name will be displayed to show that your Exchange account has been located.
NOTE: If you receive an error at this point, verify the information that you have entered. If it is correct, click Next.
  11. By default Outlook will deliver your new mail messages to your Personal Folders. You may be prompted with a message explaining how to correct this issue. Click Yes to close the message window.
  12. In the Email Accounts window, make sure that the pull-down menu labeled “Deliver new e-mail to the following location” is set to “Mailbox - …” not Personal Folders.
  13. Click Finish, click OK to close any informational windows that may appear, and click Close.
  14. Because Outlook uses NT Authentication, it is not necessary to enter your password every time you open Outlook.
