Working closely with other campus groups, Information Technology keeps Central
Michigan University running smoothly.
IT configures applications, provides program enhancements and interfaces,
implements new features and forms, designs end-user programs, and, in some
cases, provides
Training for the following specialized
campus resources:
Servers
Hardware
The main machine room contains approximately 120 rack-mounted
servers. The majority of these are Pentium Xeon based machines that run Windows 2003 Server. IT also supports various UNIX platforms and
applications. Primary Hardware vendors include Apple, HP, IBM.
Software
The primary server operating systems and support programs are:
-
Windows 2003
-
Linux
-
Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 Database Management Systems
-
AIX
The primary server applications are:
-
Payroll/Personnel System (SAP)
-
Financial Accounting System (SAP)
-
Workforce Management (Timelink)
-
Tivoli Storage Manager
-
eSupport Essentials
-
Systems Management Server

Shared Storage Devices
Direct Access Storage
CMU has both an IBM 8100 and an IBM 4800 Enterprise Storage System with a combined storage capacity of 19 Tb. Additionally, IT maintains an Apple XSan supporting another 30 TB of raw storage
Tape Storage
CMU has two IBM 3583 robotic tape units, each with four LTO III tape drives, and slots for 72 tapes each. The tape drives are managed by two TSM servers.
Machine Room Power
Machine room power is provided by a Liebert 150KVA UPS. In the event of an
external power failure, all equipment within the machine room will continue to
operate on battery power for a minimum of two hours. A diesel generator
activates automatically to recharge the batteries, providing continuous power
until external power has been restored.
Telemanagement System
This is a client/server application running under AIX on RISC/6000 from
Professional Computing Resources Incorporated. It covers:
-
Telephone Directory
-
Trouble Ticket
-
Service Order
-
Billing
-
Cable Inventory
-
Station Maintenance
Network more
Email and Calendar more
IT Committees
- The Distributed Computing Advisory Committee (DCAC)
is composed of technology coordinators from individual colleges and
administrative units, who are frontline support group personnel critical
to keeping the colleges and administrative units functioning.
