Videoconferencing and audioconferencing allow two-way communication between
groups at different sites using special cameras, monitors, and audio devices.
Students off-site can attend classes, and committees and research groups can
communicate globally.
CMU community and non-profit organizations have been the traditional users of
the system, but the system can be rented to private organizations as well.
IT offers video-conferencing services in several platforms. Using H.320 CODEC
technology, The Woldt Video Classroom seats up to 30 participants and
employs up-to-date multi-mediated functions. It supports a T-1 network
connection with connection speeds from 336 Kbps to 672 Kbps. The room rental fee
is $30.00 an hour, and the telecommunication charges are $35.00 an hour.
IT also has available one Roll-about Unit that can be connected to any
University facility with network access. The unit has limited multi-mediated
functions, but may interface with multi-mediated classrooms. The Roll-about
Unit supports ISDN network connection speeds from 112/128 Kbps to 336/384 Kbps.
Bridging services can be arranged with outside sources.
Please call the Telecommunications Service Center, Woldt Lower Level, phone 774-3091, for reservations.
