Central Michigan
University is committed to
excellence and innovation in the use of technology to ensure that students have
the equipment and experiences needed to master the technology skills used widely
in modern careers.
"The Learning Initiative" represents the efforts of the
University community working together over several years to identify CMU's goals
and expectations in this area. The key conclusions of the initiative are:
-
Every student is strongly encouraged to own a computer.
-
Almost all CMU classrooms will be equipped with modern technology.
-
Many CMU faculty will post assignments, readings, quizzes, and other information for students
on CMU's electronic course management server.
-
CMU's high-speed electronic network will continue to expand.
-
Technology support will be broadened for both students and faculty.
CMU's Investment
CMU is committed to investing in technology that fully prepares students for
modern careers. Plans are in place for extensive technology enhancements over
the next four years.
Student Investment
Although CMU does not require but strongly recommends that students have
computers and software to meet educational needs. Financial aid loans and
discount purchase opportunities are available.
IT Committees
The Faculty Technology Planning Committee was instrumental in providing
direction for and disseminating information about the initiative.
